Bought this atv used in 2004. The atv use to start fine, then slowly
over the next several years it got harder to crank, even using the
choke. The bike has not been started for the past year and won't crank
now. I removed and cleaned the gas tank, installed a new pet cock
assembly , and carburetor. Adjusted the pilot screw 2 1/4 turns out,
installed new spark plug with right gap. The engine has spark and
getting fuel. It backfires a few times but won't start. Any ideas
would surely be appreciated!

Airbox could be full with a mouse nest or something. Valves could be far
out of adjustment. It's not clear from your post what you did with the
carb, but it should have at least been cleaned by disassembleing and making
sure to clean out the jets very well. Sounds more like a valve adjustment
though.

Be cool,

Thanks Icon, you were right. Turns out one of valves was stuck and the
piston hit and bent it. Did not need to replace the piston. Ground
valve seats and put in new valves and adjusted them. Runs great now.

Glad to hear it's up and running now. Things like that are the curse of not
riding enough. We've all been there.
