atv tire on Car rim ?

I hope somebody can help us with this question.

We own a Geo Metro with 155x80x13 car tires we use only within the farm
compound. Mainly use it to pull a small trailer on unpaved loose dirt roads.
Sometimes the tire slips. Since tires are about to go, we were wondering if
any of the ATv tires can be mounted on the stock wheels ? Clearance is not a
problem as we are willing to cut or even remove the fenders so long as we get
more traction. The wheels have 4 bolts with a distance of 115mm bet 2 opposing
bolts.

I was wondering if there is a tire we can use ? OR do we need to buy rims too
if there is no rim to match existing car rim ?

Again thanks for any info

Hi Jay,
I have seen some ATVs riding around with automotive tires and rims. There
is at least a small chance that you could put an ATV tire on the Geo rims.
That rim can't be more than 4 inches wide. It says that there are 14 inch
rims available for the Geo. If you end up with taller tires than it came
with; the performance may suffer.

If it were me, I would take the Geo out to the back of the farm, and use it
for target practice. After expending at least 1000 rounds I would visit
e-Bay and "bid to win" on a 4X4 utility ATV.

If the Geo survives one day of target practice, you should practice some
more. Eventually you could take the two best rims and tires to an ATV store
and compare the ATV tires to the Geo tires. If the Geo tires were not
mounted on the rims it would be easier to compare the bead areas of the
tires.

Maybe an automotive style "snow" tire would be cheaper, and a sure fit. I
would visit Tirerack.com and see what snow tires are offered for the Geo.
You may want some runflats if you are going to be shooting at it. If you
want to save some denaros you could probably find some used snow tires with
good tread or even some roughtread retreads.

Let some common sense prevail,
Please post the pictures. Don't shoot the ATV tires, just the rest of the
car.

Don't know of any 13" ATV tires. Even if you did find some, they probably
wouldn't be rated to handle the weight of a Metro (even though it's probably
not much more than that of a larger ATV).

I would look the other way around. Try and find a set of 14" rims that fit
that car and buy yourself some Super Swampers. The SS model is available in
14" rim and in relatively small diameters. No need to have a set of 4 BTW,
you only need a pair in front. As it's been said though, performance will
suffer quite badly because of the different radius and unfortunatly there
isn't much you can do on a car to counterbalance that.

If I were you I'd look into Samurais or Sidekicks in your area... A beat up
one can usually be bought for a couple undreds (bought many here for
100-200$ CND) and even in stock form they will kick a Metro with SS's ass
any time of the week... You get low range too which is nice...

Alex.
